Our first annual Back to the Nest Fest Car Parade was a blast! We loved seeing so many of our famlies in the neighborhood and celebrating the start of the school year!

Back to the Nest Fest Tomorrow!

We can't wait to see all our Eagles at the Back to the Nest Fest tomorrow (Thursday, August 18).  Doors open at 3:30 PM!  Please see yesterday's News You Choose for more details.

TIP: You can find out your child's teacher via your Parent VUE account ahead of time!  We'll also have staff available in the cafeteria to tell you as well.

Please plan to visit our amazing food vendors: Mr. Falafel, Cantina Grill and Kona Ice!  Their menus are posted below.

Use this opportunity to bring in your student's school supplies, drop off medication in our clinic and/or add money to their lunch account in the cafeteria.

Important Arrival & Dismissal Information

Please talk to your child before school starts on Monday (August 22) so that they know how to get home from school ahead of time.

  • Generally speaking, students who live in our immediate neighborhood should be walking to/from school, and most students in the Advanced Academic or Multiple Abilities classes ride a bus.
  • If you are choosing to pick-up/drop-off your student via car, you MUST use our Kiss & Ride line so that we can keep our students safe and away from vehicular traffic on our side street.
  • If you are using Kiss & Ride ride, be sure that you child's teacher is aware of this before Monday so that we can dismiss them appropriately.

Please take a moment to review this flyer with additional information on Arrivals and Dismissals at SEES:

From Our Public Health Nurse

Below is a variety of information to support our goal that your student enjoys a safe and healthy school year while balancing the COVID-19 pandemic mitigation strategies.  More detailed information can be found in the Health and Safety Guidance Document on our website.

If you have any questions regarding the health room services, please feel free to call either your School Health Aide, Uzma Kaker, or your Public Health Nurse, Tracy Apitz, BSN, RN at (703) 921-2310.

COVID-19 Protocals

While we had hoped that the pandemic would be behind us, it seems that COVID will be something we must manage as a community for the foreseeable future. FCPS will continue to follow the guidance of national, state, and local health experts when determining the layered prevention strategies that are needed to keep our schools safe and open for learning. FCPS continues to require families to review the Daily Health Screening before sending students to school. The 5 Day Isolation Period will also continue for COVID positive students and staff

  • Students demonstrating any of the following symptoms will be sent home from school:   Fever (100.4 or greater), Chills, Cough, Shortness of breath,  Loss of taste/smell, Sore throat, Fatigue, Muscle aches, Runny Nose/Congestion, Stomachache, Diarrhea, Nausea/Vomiting, Headaches.  The parent/guardian will be notified and the FCPS Guidance for Student Sent Home from the Care Room with COVID-like Illness form will be sent home.
  • Parents are expected to pick up their child within one hour of notification.
  • For students with chronic symptoms similar to COVID-like symptoms/illness, parents/guardians are encouraged to complete and regularly update the Health Information Form (HIF).
Clinic Room Care

Your school health room services include:

  1. Care of sick (except COVID-like symptoms/illness) and injured students according to the FCPS School Health Emergency COVID Temporary Care Guidelines.
  2. Administration of medication provided by parents/guardians with proper authorization completed by their health care provider.
  3. Coordination of care for students with chronic health conditions during the school day.
  4. Hearing and vision screening (grades K, 3, 7, 10, new to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), and those students referred by teachers and parents/guardians).

How can you help your school health room provide the best possible care?

  • Keep your student home when they are sick.
  • Advise the School Health Aide or the Public Health Nurse of any special health concerns.
  • Immediately notify the physical education (PE) teacher if your child has any PE restrictions.
  • Provide current home, work, and alternate telephone numbers for the Emergency Care Information form.
Changes to Medication Administration Management

This school year, FCPS is changing our medication protocols to help ensure the safety of our medication administration management in Fairfax County Public Schools. These changes include:

  • Any time you drop off or pick up a medication in the health room, a Medication Delivery/Pick Up Form will be completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the School Health Aide or FCPS staff member. This form will document that all required authorizations are complete, and the number of pills or amount of medication accepted/returned. A copy of the form will be given to the parent/guardian and school administrator.
  • Medications received will be verified to ensure the description of the medication on the container/packaging matches the medication in the container.
  • All medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Over the counter (OTC) medications must be in an unopened original container. It will no longer be acceptable for parents/guardians to bring in refills from home and place them into the container currently in the health room.
  • Only a 30-day supply of medications should be brought to school. No more than 100 tablets or pills of OTC medication should be brought to school.
  • All requirements outlined in FCPS Regulation 2102, First Aid, Emergency Treatment and Administration of Medication for Students, continue to apply.

In order to provide the most streamlined and convenient process to implement these changes, you can bring any medication and/or forms to the clinic on 8/17, 8/19 between the hours of 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, 8/18 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Open House 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

The exceptional teaching staff and support personnel at SEES want to ensure that every child is successful.  Our goal is to support and encourage each child to find, develop, and explore their talents and gifts.  If there is something that may impact your child’s success or focus during the school day, please communicate this to your child’s teacher, the school counselor, myself, or any other staff member.  We are all here to support you and your student(s).

Being actively involved in your child’s education is essential in developing a strong partnership between home and school.  We have many volunteer opportunities available, and we hope to see a lot of you throughout the school year. The SEES motto is to create a community of learners where, “Together We Soar.”  We are a school where everyone shares in the responsibility for the success of every one of our students.

So, get ready to soar together, Eagles! Our teachers and staff are excited to see you soon and have planned lots of exciting opportunities for you to learn and grow this year. Below is more information you will need for this year.  See you at Nest Fest on August 18, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.!

Arrival/Dismissal

The beginning and end of our school day are very busy as we safely move students to and from our building.  Please help us to keep them safe by reading and following these guidelines

Class Placements

We know that you are eager to learn who your child's teacher is this year. Class placements will be available via Parent Vue beginning August 16, as well in-person at the Nest Fest.  Please keep in mind, sometimes adjustments to class assignments are made throughout the first month of school to adjust for staffing and enrollment changes.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists for grades K-6 can be found on our school website.  Families needing support for any of these school supplies should contact the Springfield Estates Counseling Team - Sangeeta Garg ([email protected]) or  Ryann Laden ([email protected]).

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students has expired and families will need to apply for free and reduced meals again.

Families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

Immunization Reminder

As a reminder, all students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in the state of Virginia. It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.

Please talk with your family healthcare provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins. Submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible.

More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.

School Forms

It’s important for parents to complete all required school forms. Returning families in grades PreK-6 must complete the following forms yearly:

  • Health Information
  • Emergency Care Information
  • Identification of Military Connected Students

Families can get a jumpstart on the continuing enrollment forms by clicking here. If you prefer to wait, the forms will be sent home with your child in the first day of school packet for families to complete and return to school.

If your child is starting kindergarten or if you are new to Springfield Estates, please know that all school registration forms must be completed in order to receive class placement. Electronic forms for new students can be found here.  Parents who have questions about registering in Fairfax County Public Schools can visit the FCPS website for additional information.

If you have any questions regarding registration, please contact our registrar, Vicky Patronik, at [email protected], or call 703-921-2300 for an appointment.

Your Child’s Health

Your child’s heath needs at school is a priority. School health room services, including the administration of medication and modified first aid, are performed by the health room aide.  When we return to school, prescription and most over-the-counter medications at school require strict adult supervision and should not be in the child’s possession. Please let us know if your child has special health needs that may impact learning in school as soon as possible.  We will connect you with our Public Health Nurse, Tracey Apitz, ([email protected]) to develop a school plan.  A letter regarding school health services will be sent home with your child on the first day of school. For more information about School Health Services, click here.

Staying in Touch
  • Back to School Forms. On the first day of school, all students will receive a Take Home Folder with critical back to school information.  We ask that parents complete the forms if they haven’t done so electronically and return those forms in the same folder to the classroom teacher.

  • News You Choose: Springfield Estates uses News You Choose to distribute the parent newsletter every week.  News You Choose is an electronic communication platform that allows community members the ability to select what information they want to receive and how often from individual schools, the School Board office and members, departments, programs, and PTA/PTO and booster organizations.  Subscribers can change their settings or unsubscribe at any time.  Make sure we have your current email so that we can send you updates.  Or, you can click here to subscribe!

  • eNotify:  Parents of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students are automatically enrolled to receive e-Notify Communications. FCPS central offices and schools use this system to communicate emergency, delayed opening and school closing information, attendance, and other essential communications. Contact information from the student information system are uploaded to the eNotify system.  It is important that parents keep their child’s emergency contact information up-to-date. To update, email Vicky Patronik, [email protected], fill out an emergency care card, or update through your SIS ParentVUE account.

  • SIS ParentVUE: Parents can access information about their child’s attendance, class performance, and manage emergency communication and FCPS forms via a SIS ParentVue account.  Click here for more information.  If you need an activation code, please call the school at 703-921-2300.

  • Schoology /SKOO-luh-jee/: Schoology is FCPS' Learning Management System.  In Schoology, parents will find teacher schedules, information about the curriculum and other important information.  It’s also a great platform for teachers to communicate with families.  Parents will receive information about accessing classroom sites from the classroom teacher.  To learn more,  click here.

  • Communicating with the Teacher: Parents may contact the classroom teacher by leaving a message with the office staff or by emailing the staff member directly.  It is best to always start with the classroom teacher if you have a question or a concern, as they are often the person with the most knowledge regarding your child.  Staff email addresses can be found on the school website. Please be sure

We are seeking crafty and creative adults to help paint the new sensory path  for our students!  This is an outdoor project to create a colorful and playful way to stimulate students' five senses, as well as balance and spatial awareness.  Volunteers will be using large stencils and spray paint on our sidewalk.  We are generally looking for two to three hours of help between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM during the week from now until the start of school -- we are happy to work with your schedule. If you'd like to help, please email Megan Brooks at [email protected] with your availability.

Bus Transportation Requests for 2022-2023

If your child will be using a bus stop next year other than the one assigned by FCPS transportation, you MUST complete the Exception to Ride TR52 form (click here and scroll to the link for the TR52 form). This includes children who go to SACC programs at other schools or who are using a stop other than the one automatically assigned by FCPS (such as for child care). These requests DO NOT roll over from year to year and must be renewed at the start of each school year. Once the next school year starts, Exception to Ride requests are not considered until October so it is important to start this process now. If you complete the attached form and send it back to school by Wednesday, June 8, we will ensure that the forms gets to FCPS Transportation this summer for consideration for next school year. If your child will be using the stop assigned automatically by FCPS, you do not need to complete this form.

Medication Pickup

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up by a parent/guardian no later than 2:05pm on June 10. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by an adult, preferably the parent or the guardian; it cannot be sent home with your student.

Student Placement for 2022-2023

As we work toward building classes for next year, we consider input from both staff and parents. If you would like to share information about the way your child learns or qualities in a teacher that you feel would help your student succeed, please complete this form by June 8, 2022. While we cannot honor requests for specific teachers, we do consider parents’ input about learning styles.

When completing the form, please follow these guidelines:

  • Share the qualities of a teacher and classroom environment that would best meet your child’s needs.
  • Let us know if you feel that your child should be separated from another student. We will take that request into consideration. Please remember that best friends do not necessarily belong in the same instructional group.
  • PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TEACHER BY NAME OR GENDER.

Please note: Because of enrollment changes over the summer, class assignments will not be finalized until mid-August.

Special Message from Outgoing President – Tanya Clay House:

SEES Parents and Staff – Thank you for the opportunity to serve SEES as the PTA President for the past 2 years.  We somehow managed to continue some of our work during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, still hosting meetings, staff appreciations for staff and bus drivers, Virtual Bingo nights, Virtual Black History programs, professional development for staff, and even in-person programs in 2022 with younger classrooms. We still continued to support our graduating 6 graders as well as providing a special treat for ALL students at the end of the year.  While this has been a challenging 2 years dealing with the pandemic, the PTA continues to be ready to support SEES parents, staff and students with the help of volunteers throughout the year.  I will continue to stay involved and hope others will as well.  Thank you all!

If you are interested in joining the PTA and/or volunteering please contact our Treasurer Mike Buckner at [email protected].  We could use your help to make sure we get to have fun activities for our students and to continue to support our SEES staff!

Please complete this form by Tuesday June 7 to request to keep your SEES child's laptop for Summer Learning.

SEES Band & Strings 2022-2023

On Friday, May 20, there will be a demonstration assembly of band and strings instruments for rising 4-6th graders to consider for the next school year.  You may not be aware, but before COVID disrupted the usual school schedule, SEES had the largest and most recognized band and strings program in all of Fairfax County – almost all of our students grades 4-6 played an instrument!  We want to continue that tradition of excellence at SEES.

The day of the demonstration assembly, students will be given intention forms for the instrument they are interested in playing – ALL STUDENTS will need to return a form (whether they intend to play an instrument or not), as they are used to formulate next year’s specials schedule. We encourage ALL students to play an instrument in band or strings!

  • Students grades 4-6 can study a strings instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass).
  • Students grades 5-6 can study a band instrument (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion).

Some instruments can be rented from the school, and there are reduced rental rates for lower income families.  If you have any questions prior to the instrument demonstration/enrollment period, please feel free to contact:
