Welcome to SEES!

  • Arrival/Dismissal:  Our expectation is that students will be in their classrooms, ready to learn, by 9:20 AM.  Students cannot be dropped off prior to 9:05 AM as we do not have staff to supervise them before then.  School ends at 4:05 PM.  Please see our Arrival and Dismissal Information flyer for details.
  • Office Hours:  Our front office is staffed from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Transportation:  Students who live within our boundaries walk to school.  Students who attend the AAP center here and live outside our boundaries are provided a bus.  For bus concerns after office hours, please call Transportation at 703-446-2150.
  • Change of phone number(s), email and/or address:  If you change your phone number, or anyone on your child’s emergency care form changes their phone number, please let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  It is critical that we be able to reach you quickly in case of an emergency.  If you change your address, we need to know that as well.
  • Release of children:  We can only release students to those adults listed on the emergency care form.
  • Absences:  Please call the attendance line (703-921-2323) to report your child’s absence, or send an email to @email, regardless of the reason (illness or other).  You are welcome to send an email to his/her teacher as well, but you MUST call the attendance line or send an attendance email each time.
  • Staying healthy:  If your child does not feel well in the morning, especially if they vomit or have a fever, please keep him/her at home.  It is recommended that your child be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Medication:  No medication should be sent to school with a child.  The parent/guardian should bring any necessary medication to SEES in person and sign the required consent form.  We are not permitted to administer medication to a child without this form.  When medication is to be administered for more than 10 days, a doctor’s prescription is also required (this includes inhalers, daily medications and EPI pens).
  • Contacting your child’s teacher:  For most teachers, contact by email is preferred. Email addresses can be found on our website. Please note that teachers typically check email before and after school; please do not send time-sensitive information (such as a same-day change in dismissal) via email.
  • Cafeteria meals:  Breakfast and lunch are available in our school cafeteria (breakfast is $1.75 for students and lunch is $3.25).  Students are welcome to bring lunch in from home as well.  Families can submit an application for Free and Reduced Meals online (fcps.edu/frm).  Menus and other information about school meals can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/food-and-nutrition-programs.
  • Celebrating special days:  Please check with your child’s teacher prior to sending in treats for birthdays (or other special days), especially with regards to any food-related allergies in your child’s classroom.  Items that can be served individually, such as cupcakes, are preferred. Party invitations can be distributed at school as long as every child in the class is invited.
  • Sending money from home:  Funds for fundraisers, field trips, etc. should be sent in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, teacher and the activity on the envelope.  Please send the exact amount needed as we cannot make change.
  • Weather-related delays and cancellations:  You can find out about Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) weather-related delays and cancellations in a number of different places —www.FCPS.edu, on the FCPS Face Book page, via the automated News You Choose system, and on local television and radio stations.
  • Picking your child up early:  When picking your child up early, a note MUST be sent to your child’s teacher that morning, noting the time you will be picking up.  Allow time for parking and for your child to walk up from the classroom (or the gym, music room, etc).  Early pick-ups should happen prior to 3:30 PM as our parking lots are used for dismissal.
  • Going home with another student:  If your child is going home with another student, we need notes from the parents/guardians of both children permitting this.
  • Parking at SEES:  We have a visitor parking lot in the front of the school and parking may also be available in our side lot.  When parking on the street, please allow 10 feet from driveways, as per Fairfax County Code.   When attending large gatherings at SEES, allow extra time to locate a parking space as our parking is limited.

If you need assistance in any way, or have any questions, please let us know!
